
Govt. actively pursuing for progress of Dimapur Airport
Kohima, March 19 (MExN): The Planning Commission of India has fixed a target of traffic revenue of Rs. 10.70 crores for the state’s department of transport and communication during 2006-07. According to the Annual Administrative Report of the department tabled at the budget session by Minister for transport and communication Imtilemba Sangtam, the revenue target fixed for the year 2005-06 of the department was at Rs.835.00 lakhs. Revenue achievement upto January 2006 stands at Rs. 841.63 lakhs, the report said. Anticipated achievement of revenue during 2005-06 is Rs. 900 lakhs. Meanwhile, the total number of vehicles registered in the state as on December 12, 2005 stands at 1, 86, 960 of which 1, 03, 323 represents transport vehicles while 83, 637 are non transports vehicles.
At present, Nagaland State Transports depar5temnt has a fleet strength of 238 buses. The department operates passenger bus services on 86 routes covering a scheduled length of 24, 912 Kms daily. This includes five inter state services connection Imphal (Manipur), Guwahati (Assam) and Shillong (Meghalaya). During the current year 30 more buses will be added to its fleet, the report said. During the current year, free travel permits have been issued to 16 physically handicapped persons and one to accredited journalist, the report said.
Further, the department had procured 20 breath analyzer or alcohol detectors and provided to the operating stations and mobile enforcement personnel to check and prevent alcohol abuse to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol of intoxication by the crews. The department has completed all processes for implementation of High Security Registration Plate in the state, which is expected to be launched shortly. Nagaland will be one of the first states in the country to take the lead in implementing this scheme, the report said. The department has been actively pursuing with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airport Authority of India for improvement and upgradation of Dimapur Airport. All weather operation at Dimapur Airport is expected with the installation of ILS. The department does not have any work charged, casual or ad-hoc appointees, the reported added.
