TASU asks reimbursement, warns of road blockade

Tizit: Tizit Area Students' Union (TASU) has asked the department concerned for reimbursement of the expenditure made by the public in repairing the Namtola-Tizit border bridge on March 21. TASU in a press release stated that it had repaired the bridge, which connects the entire Mon district through contribution by the public. It lamented that the government remained a blind spectator to the problem faced by the people and did not take any initiative to repair the wrecked bridge which got damaged on March 16.

The list of expenses, the Union said, will be submitted to the SDO concerned. It warned that if government fails to reimburse, TASU will not allow any government vehicles to ply on the bridge for which government should not blame the union for taking the law in its own hands.

TASU also asked the administration concerned to negotiate with Assam administration with regard to site-clearance for the construction of RCC Bridge between Namtola and Tizit at the earliest as the present wooden bridge would not survive this monsoon. TASU also thanked police personnel, mills, business associations and especially Green Ply industry, Tizit for assisting and contributing during the repair works.

Meanwhile, TASU also appealed the contractor/ department concerned to start repairing the “ever deteriorating” roads at Tizit sub-division before the monsoon. It claimed that the roads have been unattended for about a decade causing untold hardship to the commuters, especially for the autos and other LMVs; and people living close to the roadside because of dust. The Union warned that turning deaf ears to this appeal may invite road blockade from the students' body.
