DIMAPUR: In spite of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) exerting effort in providing a new parking space for all regional taxis behind the Town Hall, some drivers continue to pick passengers up from various points in the city. One driver, Kumar said that if the concerned authorities could check the picking up of passengers from illegal points then it is fine for them to park in the new parking lot.

However if there is no total compliance then those who obey the DMC order are at a loss as we cannot get our share of passenger quota, laments another driver waiting for passengers in the new parking lot.

Hokato, a driver based in Kohima said that the newly proposed site will be better if it was in front and not behind the Dimapur town hall. Until now only few are aware of this new development and maybe it might be the reason for the low turn up of passengers. H Uddin, who has been driving taxis for the past few years, said that it might be very helpful if the authorities can try to stop those taxis picking up passengers from different points like the rail gate areas, Purana Bazaar junction, Padampukhuri, ISBT petrol pump, etc.

It may be mentioned that the order for shifting of the taxi stand was issued on October 15 by the DMC in the interest of the general public in consultation with the district administration and traffic personnel to streamline the disorganized taxi parking system in Dimapur.
