Teachers called to be agent of change

Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): A one day orientation programme on the theme ‘Change- the agent for peace’ was organized for teacher coordinators of the Peace Clubs in Kohima. A press note issued by the Peace Channel Desk stated that the programme was held on February 26 at Little Flower Higher Secondary School where 20 teachers from different schools in Kohima participated.
Lucas Meyase, Assistant Director, School Education was the guest speaker who spoke on the theme. He said that we need to learn to transform the wounds caused to us, and not transfer it. Long run conflicts between groups are very often caused because people tend to transfer the wounds. Stating that teaching is a very noble profession; he said that teachers can play a big role in transforming the society. They can be effective agents for peace by bringing positive change in the lives of the students.
Director of Peace Channel, Rev. Fr. C. P. Anto took a session on ‘Peace Education’. He spoke on how to make the classroom friendly and peaceful. He explained the different methods or techniques of teaching which can be adapted basing on the environment of the classroom. The students need to be identified and special attention should be given to the weaker students. Dorothy spoke on Peace Channel and its activities. She explained the basic concept of the Movement and the different activities that is being carried out. This was followed by evaluation and planning guided by Victor Yhome, Coordinator of Kohima Region. The programme came to a close with the interaction with the teacher coordinators and lunch thereafter.
