Mokokchung | February 27 : The Tenyimi Students’ Union Mokokchung celebrated its first Sekrenyi cum Cultural Festival at Town Hall Mokokchung which was attended by the Tenyimi community living in and around Mokokchung and also the Ao community.
Though Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen was scheduled to be the chief guest at the programme, he could not make since he said that he was ‘physically indisposed’ to attend the programme. Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner, Lithrongla G Chishi took the honour of gracing the programme as the chief guest. Also, the home minister donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the Tenyimi Students Union, Mokokchung.
Today’s Tenyimi Students’ Union Mokokchung Sekrenyi cum Cultural Celebration which was based on the theme “Our culture our identity” was attended by around three hundred Tenyimi members living in and around Mokokchung like ICIT, Nagaland University. The chairperson of the programme, Kedoro Casavi said that the Tenyimi Students’ Union Mokokchung is “celebration oneness”. The president of the TSUM Heutwalung James Hau while delivering his presidential address called upon the participants to preserve their identity and culture through the celebration of such festivals.
Dr. Kikhi of Nagalnd University while elaborating the significance of Sekrenyi festival said that it is a time of not only celebration but also of rituals – a time of cleansing the souls of al ills and all misfortunes. Mokokchung SDO (C) meanwhile urged the participants to seek their roots and preserve our culture for posterity to come.
The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Lithrongla G Chishi appreciated the TSUM for organizing such a grand programme to celebrate the great cultural and traditional heritage of the Tenyimi people. She urged the participants to be torch bearers and give good leadership to the Naga people. She further expressed deep appreciation to the Suyim cultural club for participating in the programme and sharing the joys and blessing of the Tenyimi Sekrenyi festival. The first programme concluded with a grand Sekrenyi festival followed by a cultural session.
