Kohima | September 22 : The Kohima Chakhesang Students Union (KCSU) celebrated its Golden Jubilee under the theme “Dare to Dream” today at Cultural Arena Kisama with Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio as the chief guest.
The Chief Minister in his address lauded the pioneers who had bright vision for the student’s community and said that the fruits of the seeds sowed by the pioneers are harvesting today. He said that Jubilee celebration is to look back of the past glories and present achievement and added that today Tenyimia are proud of Chakhesang tribe because of their achievement. Rio said that many of our tribe forgets our good tradition and culture and further appreciated that Phek District being declared as the land of tradition for showing good example to other tribes.
Stating that today India literacy rate is 70.40, Rio said that the literacy rate of Nagaland is 80.11 and among Naga tribe Chakhesang literacy rate is 79.13 and further lauded the Chakhesang tribe for their hard work, sacrifice, honesty and said that they are competent with other advance tribe. He said that the government is mostly run/look by Administration and Police where Chakhesang tribe stand fourth position in NCS officers with the total of 17 and NPS officers is 22 and said that one should take away with the mindset of backwardness and should help the other backward tribes. He also stated that after 2011 census final publication, Reservation policy will be taken up and Reservation Commission Committee will be formed. Nagas are still living in consumer society and not producing society, he said and called upon the students to contribute for the progress of our society. He also said that the present government has introduced bank account for the student so that they will get loan for further education/studies, business etc. He further wished the KCSU all success in the years to come. The Chief Minister also unfurled the Union Flag and unveiled the Golden Jubilee Monolith.
KCSU celebrates Golden Jubilee
Chotisuh Sazo, Parliamentary Secretary, Social Welfare and Women Development, Nagaland stated that the Kohima Chakhesang Students’ Union (KCSU) is celebrating its Golden Jubilee owing to the efforts of the past student leaders who in spite of extreme difficulties held the flag of the union flying high. Sazo was the guest of honor at the celebration. Stressing on the multi dialect aspect of the Chakhesang community, he said that that this very aspect only enriches the community instead of dividing. Adding that the Chakhesangs still have a long way to go in education, he stressed on the need for specialized trainings for the community to move forward. Testifying that certain areas of the Chakhesangs indeed need reservation, the Parliamentary Secretary however pleaded on the need to move forward instead of depending on the ‘backward quota’. Going on, Sazo pointed to the fact that other tribes argue that the Chakhesang community should not be under the ‘backward category’ anymore, hence there is a need to consider the issue seriously.
The second session of the KCSU Golden Jubilee was chaired by Thupukytho Lohe, Ex-President, KCSU. While words of blessing was said by Rev. Zhowhuyi Nyekha, Pastor, CCRC, Kohima. A short exhortation was given by K. Mero, DIG (HQ) & President, CGOF, in his speech he encouraged the students not to hesitate in shouldering responsibilities as the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, he exhorted the students to seek the advice of elders and interact with them so as to learn more. The DIG further encouraged the students to learn and appreciate values. The second session of the KCSU also saw a special number presented by the Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kitsubozou (CBCK) and a host of songs and dances presented by the students’ community. Other highlights of the programme included Folk song presented by CCRI Chetheba, duet followed by jubilee feast.
