India recorded an average of 87 rape cases daily in 2019 and overall 4,05,861 cases of crime against women during the year, a rise of over 7% from 2018, the latest government data released on September 29, 2020 said. The cases of violence against women have been relentless and what has been realised is that this is across age groups and regions. It shows that the country is apathetic towards this and there needs to be a greater push for security of women in our country.
Deeti Mehta, Founder of BeBetterCollabs (A Social Impact Company) says, “It could have been me. I am tired of being desensitised to violence against women and sexual violence. We decided to do something. We had some incredible artists coming in voluntarily to create all of these tracks in 6 six languages!” She adds, "I believe in changing the world one step at a time by nudging people to make better and informed choices through a social lens by creating honest and organic campaigns and shareable stories. This is the beginning of my mission to eradicate evil from our society.”
Romel Dias, Creative Director and Founder of Little Sounds, adds, "Little Sounds has been all about performances in public spaces and we strongly believe that we have to do better to make our public spaces safer for all our citizens."
Bluesanova, Artist and Music Producer, says, "With crimes against women being perpetrated with shockingly regular frequency, as artists and common citizens we feel the need to come together and create a body of work that speaks about our collective stand on this issue."
Tetseo Sisters says “Our song is called La té. Veté ho. (Stop! Enough.)
“It is a wonderful thing that Nagaland is considered relatively safer for women as compared to other states in the country. It is not true though that we are violence free and that is what we need to aspire for as smart citizens and a Christian state. We have always been speaking strongly against gender discrimination, violence and harassment having faced quite a bit of it ourselves. We recently had the misfortune of having to take a fellow Naga brother to task for his misdeeds online. This was an instance of violence against women with an aim to outrage our modesty with cruel words and unfair judgement resulting in slander, harassment and criminal intimidation online. However, we are glad that we have come to an understanding to withdraw our complaint in lieu of his sincere apology and guarantee of good behavior. We are grateful to the law enforcement especially the Women Police Station Nagaland for their swift and efficient action,” says Tetseo Sisters.
They (Tetseo Sisters) stated that they we will continue to create awareness and encourage women and men to speak up for injustice and seek legal redress where necessary.
People need to speak up for right and for fairness and encourage kindness and politeness. Let’s not be silent and tolerate injustice. Let’s all make the world and our society a safe space for all genders and especially for women. Let’s lead the world in ensuring the safety and dignity of women,” stated Tetseo Sisters.
