The burial of puppet Nagaland State

Acilyi Vadeo
Joint Secretary, NNC Nagaland

Historically, racially, culturally and politically the Nagas are not Indians and Nagaland is never a part of India. The Nagas are a sovereign independent people and a free Nation with every right. Therefore, with the evolution of the modern world, the Naga people democratically constituted the Naga National Council (NNC) on 2nd February, 1946 at Wokha Village, Lotha Region, Nagaland to safeguard the sovereign birthright of the Naga people as a Nation.

Thus the Naga National Council (NNC) formally declared Naga Independence on 14th August 1947 in Kohima, Nagaland one day ahead of India's Independence. To thrash out the sovereign right of the Nagas, the Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru sent the occupational Armed Forces of India into Tuensang, Nagaland in 1955. As a result the undeclared war between the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and the Government of India (GOI) was fought in Nagaland for a decade. To this, the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) held a Meeting on 17th July, 1956 and unanimously decided to send AZ Phizo, President, NNC abroad for seeking diplomatic relations with other foreign (Alee) Nations. Where the meeting read out St John 14: 14 and prayed for the success of his Alee (Foreign) Mission. And AZ Phizo, President, NNC reached London on 12th June, 1960.

On hearing of this, the PM of India Nehru was embarrassed. So, Nehru immediately called some Nagas of the so-called Naga People Convention (NPC) and made them signed the 16 Point Agreement on July 26, 1960 without any knowledge of the Naga people. Where the so-called NPC leaders spoke many irresponsible words while Goyiepra Kenye kept silent and listened to his friends. At last, Nehru asked Goyiepra of his opinion. Goyiepra replied Nehru, “Sir, to be honest, it is impossible.” Then Nehru again said “You are right, that is true.” Thus Nehru hurriedly granted a puppet Nagaland Statehood of India and inaugurated it on December, 1963 as the 16th state of Indian Union. In this way the so-called NPC leaders betrayed the Nagas and this so-called NPC became the first faction in the history of the Naga Nation. Though this puppet state was inaugurated, the war between the GOI and FGN continued till May, 1964.

Seeing this horrible situation in Nagaland, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) took risk and set up a Peace Mission Team to bring peace in Nagaland. The tragedy of the Naga people during that time was unbearable. So, the NBCC chose Jayaprakash Narayan, Bimala Prashad Chaliha and Rev Michael Scott a Britisher as the Peace Mission members.

Thus the GOI and the FGN signed the Ceasefire Agreement on 25th May, 1964 and on 10th August, 1964 respectively, through the initiative of the Peace Mission members. This Ceasefire Agreement was officially affected on 6th September, 1964. And this is the burial of the puppet Nagaland state committed by India itself.

The North East Herald-Sunday July 14th 2002 pars 4 also stated: “The 16th Point Agreement which culminated in formation of Nagaland in 1960 cannot basis for a final settlement of the vexed Naga issues as events since 1964 have taken over it.”

But till today the GOI is forcefully occupying Nagaland and conducting Hornbill Festival from 1st December to 10th December, 2023 sponsored by the puppet state of India, the aggressor based on the so-called Nagaland statehood day of 1st December, 1963.

The more India tries to manipulate the right of the Nagas, the more India will expose the truth of the Nagas before the world. Therefore the NNC is unequivocally giving this statement to let the people of the world know the truth and reality of the Naga Nation.
