The Morbid Doughnut

Jungtina Jamir

It’s almost two years since……the sky grew to be almost dark. That stage between the day’s end and nightfall. It was dark, but with a hint of the days heat still in the air. I had just come back from the theaters after watching the movie ‘Underworld’. For those who haven’t watched that movie, it’s about vampires and werewolves, an immortal battle for supremacy. Obviously, you’d know what that would mean. Lots of action ‘bites’. That evening, the trees that somehow propped themselves above the ferocity of the buildings were swaying amicably as if the thriving metropolis never bothered them at all. Just the perfect evening to relax and eat my favorite SWEET doughnuts from “Nadan’s Pastry Shop”.

As I witnessed the dreamy evening from the comfort of my bed in the hostel I stayed at, the faint murmurs of people, the hum of car engines and the roar of planes overhead, melted into my ears. It was almost hypnotic as I drifted into a light slumber.
Incandescent dreams of wondrous copulation between me and a mysterious being –

Half human, half beast, a delightful hybrid, and mine for the tasting. It oozed a stickiness that was sickly sweet. I went back for more. It felt delicately soft, spongy and ever so light. I sunk my teeth into its shoulder - took a chunk out of the flesh. Amazingly it did not bleed, but I chewed the chunk briefly before swallowing it down.  I found myself uncontrollably laughing. Muahahahahahaha!!! Never felt so delightfully evil!

I found myself in a ravenous hunger, biting all over its mismatched body, beautiful in its oddly shape. My breathing quickened and I woke up, startled, to find the not quite empty doughnut packet on the bed. One glazed ring of sugariness left…

It was all just a sugar high that I confused for a morbid revelation.
