Think out of ‘tribal box’ to advance: KV Pusa

Dimapur, December 12 (MExN): Addressing the Angami Public Organisation (APO) convention at APO hall today, former president of Pradesh Congress Committee and veteran Congress MLA, Pusa said parochial thinking would bring parochial achievements. Only when we think outside the tribal box can we advance beyond tribal boundaries he added. He said many of Angami talents have been wasted because they were narrow-minded and would not dare to venture outside their secure zone adding, the space out there belongs to the bold and the enterprising.
The congress leader asked Angami people to realign their weaknesses and strengthen in view of the prevalent social conditions. He said lands of Angami have become metropolitan and that they have no longer have that exclusive environment where they could afford to remain conservative, assert their cultural behaviour and take pride in their unique tribal attributes. The time has now come for us to be adaptable and accommodative he said.
Pusa said urged Angami people to know that the tribal public organization that they represent today is not a traditional tribal political institution as there was no tribal organization during the time of their forefathers, neither was there any need for it. Keeping this in mind we need to find our place in the present day socio-economic and political system. The answer to who are we and why are we here for, will define the perimeter of our operation as a public organization the said.
The veteran congress leader also urged APO to act as a bridge between the people and the government and pursue the interests and collective goals of society. He said there would be occasions when they cooperate with the government and assist in carrying out its policies. There may be times when we need to influence the government for favour in exercise of governmental authority in pursuance of our interests he added.
He also underscored the need to respect the laws of the land and honour the different authorities in their own places. He said if APO could do that than there is an important position for public organization like APO but added that it requires that they must prove their usefulness by their performance and contribution to society as a whole.
Pusa said there were numerous areas of socio-cultural and economic projects that could be undertaken by organizations in house to benefit the people, but cautioned that they would be making a blunder if they focus their priorities solely on politics and neglect the other avenues that are opened to them.
