Tikhir officially accorded status of separate Naga Tribe

Dimapur, April 2 (MExN): The Tikhir tribe has been officially recognised as a separate Naga tribe with a ‘Tikhir tribe recognition celebration day’ at Kiusam town on April 2.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attended the celebration as the special guest while Agriculture & Cooperation Minister, G Kaito Aye was the cultural guest.

Following the event, the Chief Minister took to Twitter to greet the Tikhir people. “I express immense joy and heartfelt wishes to the Tikhir community on being accorded the status of a separate Naga Tribe. I assure full cooperation and support in achieving the ambitions and aspirations of the Tikhir tribe,” he wrote.

Earlier in January, the State Cabinet took the decision to recognise Tikhir as a separate Naga tribe while upgrading Shamator from a subdivision to district.
