We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. – Albert Einstein
It’s time for change. Nagaland doesn’t need some minor adjustments or cosmetic change. Nagaland needs radical change; a revolution! We cannot bear to have a repeat of the past. We must embark on a new course.
It’s time for change. We need new leadership. We need a new government in Kohima. We need fresh faces, new blood, and creative ideas to tackle the problems that have plagued this troubled land for too long.
We don’t need empty slogans and promises. We don’t need electioneering. We need a government that is accountable and transparent. We need to see fairness and integrity. Above all, what is needed is sincerity.
Neither the ruling coalition nor the opposition party offers us anything, except more of the same. This is a time for change, not incumbency. But nothing will change unless we, the Nagas, use the ballot instead of the bullet!
We’re tired of the poor performance of the power department. We’re tired of driving our vehicles on poorly constructed roads. We’re tired of the lack of water and proper sanitation. And we’re tired of seeing government ministers and directors building mansions while we, the common people, struggle to make a living.
Enough is enough. It’s time for change. We need to explore new ideas.
For example:
• An independent court system; a judicial system that is not run by the politicians.
• Independent outside election monitors
• A tribunal that will assess the wealth accumulated by all previous politicians and when necessary will cease their property
• Local councils which will supervise all public work construction performed in their areas
• Term limits for politicians.
• Removal of the VAT for Nagaland
• Removal of the PAP/RAP
• Bringing in new airlines to service the state
• Privatise the power department
• A complete review of all government department and removal of poor performers
• Strict office procedures for all government offices
• Government contracts will be awarded at public meetings only, results published in local newspapers
• Require all MLA’s to have regular office hours open to the public, not at their residence, but at an office (you can’t live in one place and represent another).
It is the 21st century, yet we’re still living in the Stone Age! We must take drastic steps, or we will continue to slide into oblivion! Soon the election will take place. Let the politicians in Kohima know that it’s time for them to pack their bags.
