CYO 52nd sports week underway at Chümoukedima
CHÜMOUKEDIMA, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): The Chakhroma Youth Organisation began its 52nd Sports week 2023 on October 21 at Local Ground, Chümoukedima Town with Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio as the special guest during the inaugural ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, Zhaleo acknowledged the efforts of CYO leaders, village leaders, sponsors and all individuals who toiled hard to organize a grand sports event. He noted that only 26 villages out of 44 villages were in the fray which is only around 50% of villages under Chakhroma region and urged every village to partake the next event, informed a press release issued by Thejangukho Yalietsu, media secretary to NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/C.
Asserting that it is “time for us to progress in games and sports,” Zhaleo emphasized on hard work and determination to reach greater heights. He further opined that Nagas have enough talent/ potential and cited Dr T. Ao who, through grit and determination, excelled in the game to lead Indian team in 1948 Olympics under free Indian republic even while he was studying medicine then.
“Discipline, commitment, self confidence, health or physical fitness, etc are basic requirements for sportsman,” he stated, and advised young people to “identify your talents, your field of excellence and specialise in it, not be a jack of all trades, master of none.”
Zhaleo also appealed for proper parental guidance, initiatives such as special coaching through intervention of leaders, society, etc. where youngsters can strive ahead from the early stages. He also enunciated that a calendar of sport activities is imperative where sportsmen can rise from society level, community to range, district to state and later, national level.
While stating that alcohol, drug use & substance abuse are greatest enemies of sportsmen, Zhaleo urged everyone to abstain from them. Further, he appealed people to refrain from tribalism and mooted the idea for a mega-sports tournament of Chümoukedima district that will include all tribes. The tournament will culminate on October 28.
