Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign in Mon

Along with the rest of the country, the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign was launched at Holy Cross School, Mon District by Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma on September 24.

MON, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): Along with the rest of the country, the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign was launched at Holy Cross School, Mon District by Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma on September 24. The campaign will continue for 60 days all over India with the objective of protecting the youth from the harmful effects of tobacco and from tobacco addiction.

According to a press release, the campaign focuses on 4 strategies-escalating public awareness of tobacco’s harmful effects, visit more schools and colleges so that more educational institutions can be declared as tobacco free, increase enforcement of Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA ) ACT 2003 and promoting tobacco free village. 

During the launch, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the students to focus on their aim and goals in life and not be distracted by any form of substance abuse like tobacco, drugs and alcohol etc. The program was organized by National Tobacco Control Program, Mon. Dr Esther Chophy Ngullie,  District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Mon spoke on the objectives of the campaign and appealed to the district administration, police department, school authorities, public ,NGO’s and especially the students to cooperate with the team to make this campaign successful in Mon district.

Anti Tobacco Pledge was led by Dr Lihngam Koyak, Junior Dental Surgeon, District Hospital, Mon. The program was chaired by Nyeamying Konyak, District Consultant, NTCP, Mon and welcome address was given by Sabu James, Principal, Holy Cross School, Mon.
