Longleng, June 10 (MExN): Toiching Village, which was officially recognised in 2025, remains the only recognised village in Longleng district yet to be electrified, the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was informed on June 10.
During discussions on the installation of smart meters and transformers, SDO (Electrical) Moiching Shembu highlighted the need for strengthening power infrastructure in the district.
He informed the board that electrification of Toiching Village remains pending despite its recognition last year.
Shembu also pointed to the growing demand for electricity in and around Longleng town due to increasing development activities. According to him, the existing power infrastructure is under strain and requires augmentation and upgradation to meet current and future requirements.
He further highlighted the need for additional transformers and low-tension (LT) lines in certain locations, citing EAC Yachem, where facilities such as the Community Health Centre, Ayushman Hospital and EAC Office require improved power infrastructure.
Following the discussion, the board decided to invite the Executive Engineer (Transmission), Transmission Division, Mokokchung, to the next DPDB meeting to present a detailed report on the district's power situation and infrastructure requirements.
