Training on basic official statistics

Kohima, September 4 (MExN): The Department of Economics & Statistics has conducted a training course on “Basic Official Statistics” for the Statistical Personnel’s posted at various line Departments from August 17 to 19 and August and August 24 to 26 respectively. The main objective of the training is to build up the human recourse capacity to enhance the statistical product.
Y.Sacheo Ovung, the Additional Director & HOD, while briefing the trainees has reminded that the Department is the Nodal Department for collecting and disseminating all statistical activities in the State. He further said that the Department is responsible for advising, guiding, auditing and approving any statistical data before it is published or disseminated. As such, the Statistical personnel posted at various line departments plays a crucial role in collaborating with Line departments. During the training course, various statistical methods were taught, such as, basic economics and statistics, sample techniques and survey methods, identification and methodology for collecting statistical data. The resource persons were Haisuing Haikam, Deputy Director, Charles N Kikon, Asst. Director, Neisiatuo Puro, Asst. Director, Lithongo Lotha, Asst. Director and Neidilhou Angami, Asst. Director.
