Kohima, September 17 (MExN): A two-day training program under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-4 was held on September 14 and 15, 2024.
The program took place in five villages—Trongar, Alisopur, Longkhitpeh, Kiding, and Mangakhyun—forming the Rezeh Organic Producer Company Ltd. in the Longkhim-Chare Block of Tuensang district.
The training, organized by The Green Caravan, Nagaland, aimed to empower farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their organic farming practices. Participants were educated on the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) guidelines to ensure their produce meets national and international standards. They received instruction on managing Internal Control Systems (ICS) to uphold the integrity of organic certification processes.
The importance of maintaining a Farmers’ Diary was stressed to help track farming activities, inputs, and outputs, thereby facilitating better planning and transparency. Additionally, farmers learned techniques for processing their produce to add value, enhancing both quality and marketability. Innovative marketing strategies were also discussed to help farmers access broader markets and secure fair prices for their organic products.
Bongkam Phom, Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer (SDAO) of Longkhim, underscored the significance of adhering to NPOP guidelines. He assured farmers of the department’s support and encouraged them to uphold high standards in organic farming to access larger, more lucrative markets. Phom highlighted the role of organic farming in sustainable development and urged participants to apply their newfound knowledge effectively.
As part of MOVCDNER Phase-4, the initiative is expected to strengthen the organic farming ecosystem in the region, promoting both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
