Phek, March 31 (MExN): The District Tobacco Control Cell, National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), Phek with the aim to carry out effective implementation of tobacco control laws in the district conducted training with police personnel at Phek Town Council Hall on March 25.
A press release issued by Kutolu Nakro, District Media Officer, NHM Phek stated that the Superintendant of Police, Phek Vesupra Kezo in his keynote address advised the personnel to be aware of the various Sections and effectively implement the laws and enforce as per the provisions of the Act.
In the first session, Neiwe-u Losou Psychologist NTCP, Phek sensitized the participants on harmful effects of tobacco, poisonous chemicals contain in tobacco that is harmful for health.
In the second session, Dr Nichukholie Vupru, Nodal Officer NTCP, Phek oriented the personnel on the main provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTPA) Act 2003. Information on penalty for violation of the Act under different section has been disseminated.
Meanwhile, with the initiative of the SP, NTCP staff along with the police personnel, NGOs, Civil Societies and administration carried out the enforcement drive on sale of tobacco products within the Phek town on March 20.
During the drive, some shopkeepers were penalised for violation of COTPA section 6 and also Chalan were issued for violation of section 7 which were settled as per the laid down guidelines of the Act.
