Training on improved agri practices for rural livelihood held

Wokha, March 26 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha, ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre organized one day training programme on ‘Improved Agriculture practices for Rural livelihood’ on March 20 in collaboration with Dice Foundation funded by Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).

Dr. Bidyut. C. Deka, Joint Director, ICAR, Nagaland Centre, the special guest, encouraged the participating farmers to take up farming scientifically so maximum return can be obtained by the farmers. He also encouraged the farmers to take up maize cultivation in their respective villages so poultry feeds can be availed from their own field without spending money for buying feeds from the market, stated a press release.

He highlighted on various initiatives taken up in the area which includes development of Integrated Farming System at Liphanyan, integrated duck cum fish farming systems, and water harvesting structures funded by TSP and National Horticulture Mission respectively.

The Joint Director also announced that 2000 numbers of vanaraja chicks would be provided to ten selected SHGs (200 chicks each) funded by TSP of the ICAR, which will be collaboratively monitored by KVK and Dice foundation. Marking his presence, he distributed ducklings (Cherra Chambli), maize seeds (RCM-76), and medium duration lowland rice seeds (RCM-11) to the participating farmers.

Ronchamo Kikon delivered a short speech on behalf of the MLA where he thanked the Joint Director for taking initiative for agriculture development in Ralan area. He also expressed gratitude to the two visiting scientists, Dr. Patra and Dr. Rakesh and appealed to the scientists on behalf of the farmers for assistance under their respective division. 
N. Khumdemo Ezung, Programme Co-ordinator (i/c) informed that the objective of the training was to strengthen the technical skills of the SHGs, particularly for poultry rearing (Vanaraja).

During the technical session, the resource persons N. Khumdemo Ezung, Bendangla, SMS (PB) and Dr. Moa, SMS (A.Sc.) delivered lecture on the topics, ‘Agro-forestry’, ‘Maize seed production’ and ‘Scientific poultry production’.

Visit to TSP and National Horticulture Mission project sites at Yanpha, Old Ralan and Liphanyan was also undertaken by Joint Director and his team of scientists for spot verification. The team expressed satisfaction on the projects implemented.

In all, 10 SHGs from six different villages under Ralan area participated in the programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Loreni Ezung, Project Manager, Dice Foundation.
