MEDZIPHEMA, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): A five-day training programme on “Scientific Livestock Management for Enhanced Productivity and Profitability” is underway at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, for 20 farmers from Meluri district.
The programme, scheduled from September 15 to 19, aims to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and skills in scientific livestock rearing, with a focus on Mithun, the state animal of Nagaland.
On the first day, sessions were held on NRCM technologies and Mithun promotion programmes, government schemes for farmers, semi-intensive Mithun rearing practices, scientific pig management, and microbial diseases affecting Mithun.
In the coming days, farmers will be trained on Mithun handling and identification, record keeping in breeding, reproductive and feeding management, artificial insemination, and disease control. They will also gain exposure to entrepreneurial opportunities, value addition in Mithun meat and milk products, and field visits to ICAR Nagaland Centre farms and the Mithun Conservation Unit at Khonoma village.
The organisers said the training is expected to equip farmers with scientific know-how and practical skills to adopt improved livestock practices for better productivity, profitability and livelihood security.
