Kohima, June 14 (MExN): A one-day training on ‘rehabilitation of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities’ for caregivers and parents of children with disabilities was held in Kohima.

A press release received here stated that it was conducted by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Secunderabad, Telangana under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Nagaland and Cherry Blossom Society, Kohima.

Dr Ravi Prakash Singh, Officer Incharge and faculty in Special Education, NIEPID Regional Centre Navi Mumbai conducted the elaborative sessions on ‘Disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016’, ‘Role of Family in Rehabilitation’ and ‘Inclusion of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the light of National Education Policy 2020.’  

Cherry Blossom Society Principal, Purnima Kayina shared her views on the issues and challenges faced by the parents and families of children with disabilities during COVID-19 pandemic. Cultural performance was given by the students with disabilities from Cherry Blossom Society. Altogether 86 parents and caregivers participated in the programme.
