The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DoE&S), Nagaland has launched a five-day training programme on social statistics including vital statistics for statistical staff at the DES Conference Hall.

Gracing the inaugural function, DES additional director and HoD, Neidilhou Angami said that many innovative programmes are being initiated to improve the credibility of the department in providing reliable and accurate statistics for proper policy intervention.

Stating that the Economics and Statistics department is the nodal department of statistics in the state, he stressed on the need to work cohesively to deliver services and execute responsibilities in an effective manner.

In order to enhance the human resource capability of the department, he said the department has a training division to train the statistics officers on various statistical topics. In this, he called upon the statistical staff to take advantage of the training to equip themselves with collection and identification of different data as it will be more elaborate including theoretical and practical sessions as well as discussion hours.

The training on social statistics is one very important subject of the department as it covers most of the activities of the department including statistics on population, gender, health, disaster, employment, income and investment etc., he said.

Further, he challenged the trainees to take the sessions seriously and grab the opportunity to update their knowledge and skill. 

Maintaining that economics and statistics is a performing department, he said the department has recently set up a Committee on staffing patterns with the concept of placing the right person at the right place of posting for effective functioning.

Deputy Director & Programme Officer (Training), Kezhalelhou Solo informed that altogether 40 statistical staff from Kohima, Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Kiphire and the Directorate have registered for this training. The training will go on till September 10.
