Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): Orientation Training for Para Legal Volunteers of Dimapur District was held on March 11 at the Conference Hall of District Court, Dimapur.
The Orientation Training was organised by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority in association with Dimapur District Services Authority, a press release informed.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, Master Trainer of NSLSA briefed on the Training methodology and concepts while Ajong Imchen, Secretary of Dimapur District Services Authority, gave a detailed illustration on the Do’s and Don’ts of Para Legal Volunteers.
Later, Alemwapang Ao, Master Trainer (Nagaland State Legal Services Authority) conducted a practical session on drafting of Petitions, Complaint, F.I.R to equip Para Legal Volunteers with adequate drafting skill. Easter Aye, Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainer (NSLSA) in her session, prepared the Para legal Volunteers on dealing and handling cases related to Crime against women and Children and their protection.
Role play by Para Legal Volunteers on cases of Motor accidents and Claims was presented by Limasenla Longkumer, Master Trainer (NSLSA) and exercise on Consumer Redressal Techniques & Forums was presented by Cheliam Khiamniungan.
In the afternoon session, Easter Aye, lectured on Human Trafficking issues and current realities within the local context and briefed on how a Para Legal Volunteer should approach and deal with such cases. In the second Practical session, an exercise on Maintenance of Records, PLV register, filing of Success Stories was carried out coordinated by Alemwapang Ao.
Member Secretary of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, Nino Iralu, as resource person highlighted on the challenges, technical issues and way forward visions on the context of Para legal Volunteers and Panel Lawyers. Limasenla Longkumer apprised the Para legal Volunteers on Prisoners Right and ways to ensure the prisoners right through regular Jail visit and interaction with Jail inmates and Jail authorities.
A group discussion session was also held with the Para legal Volunteers and officials of Legal Services institution on various National Legal Services Authorities (NALSA) Schemes and flagship programmes. The discussion was mainly focused on the implementation of the NALSA Schemes at grass root level, work progress and substantive evaluation of various Legal Services schemes where a Para Legal Volunteer plays an integral part in the successful implementation of such schemes.
According to the release, Orientation trainings of this kind are imparted both at State Level and District level from time to time to create a breed of Para legal Volunteers in the State and also to ensure that the trained Para Legal Volunteers act as intermediaries, bridging the gap between the people at village/community level and the legal service institutions for successful implementation of Legal Services and aid schemes in the State.
