Training on rubber tapping & processing held

Peren, January 25 (MExN): The Department of Land Resources, Peren in collaboration with the Rubber Board Regional office, Dimapur conducted four days training from January 9 to 12 on scientific rubber tapping and processing at Lilen village for IEMP-1 (Batch-1) villages – Lilen, Phijol, Vongkithem, Inbung, Peihang, Bongkolong, New Beisumpui, and New Chalkot.  

A press release from the department informed that the resource person, Arup Gogoi, from Rubber Board Regional office demonstrated to rubber growers and participants the scientific methods of rubber tapping and processing. On the concluding day of the training, L Gangte, president of Kuki Inpi attended the valedictory function as guest of honour.

Gangte in his speech stressed on the need to minimise the practise of jhum cultivation saying it will not prolong in the future, according to the press release. He encouraged taking up plantations such as rubber and commercial crops for sustainability, it added.  

He further thanked farmers for their contribution to the society and reminded them the important roles they play in socio-economic development.  

The training was attended by 31 trainees from 8 villages.
