Dimapur, September 6 (MExN): The department of Labour in collaboration with VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida (VVGNLI) is organizing a two day training programme on Effective Enforcement of Building and other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act 1996 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on September 8 and 9, 2011.
A press note issued by L. Nungshiyanger Aier, Joint Labour Commissioner (HoD) stated that the training is mainly for all labour officials of the State Labour Department and Welfare Board members constituted under the Act in the state.
Government of Nagaland has adopted the Act and corresponding “Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2010 is approved and notified accordingly for immediate enforcement in the state. The Act envisages a number of welfare provisions and social security measures for workers in the construction industry, besides providing a set of directions to improve their employment and service conditions. The implementation of this Act is expected to benefit thousands of workers specifically locals, employed in construction sector in the state.
The note also mentioned that basic objective of the two-day training is for orienting the participants with the salient features of the Act and to train the participants on the legal process for enforcement of the Act effectively. Dr. Onkar Sharma, Fellow, VVGNLI, Noida, who was also instrumental in framing the Central Act and Rules will be the main resource person. T. Saku Aier, Parliament Secretary for Labour & Employment and Housing will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
