Tribal Affairs dept marks Hornbill Festival in Kohima

The Department of Tribal Affairs through Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Nagaland on December 2 organised various events at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima as part of the ongoing 26th edition of Hornbill Festival 2025.

This event also commemorated Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada.

Altogether 17 communities of Nagaland competed in the tribal log cutting competition, cock fight arm wrestling, bamboo cutting and banana stem cutting competition. The arm wrestling competition was conducted in association with Arm Wrestling Association of Nagaland.

This event was funded by TRI Division, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

Nagaland Tribal Affairs Joint Secretary, T L Kiusumong Tikhir distributed the prizes to the winners of the various competitions in presence of Tribal Affairs Department, Director I Sino Phom.

A team from Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Kerala made a special presentation with their songs and musical instruments, besides exhibiting their ethnic cuisines.

Meanwhile, the next event including tribal cultural mosaic will take place on December 6 at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima from 9:00 AM onwards.

RESULTS 

Tribal Log Cutting: 1st Gwashenlo Keppen (Rengma), 2nd Rhavi Rume (Chakhesang) and 3rd Zulutoshi (Ao).

Tribal Cock Fight: 1st Kevizhakho Suokhrie (Angami); 2nd Peuhaulungsing (Zeliang) and 3rd Nukuto A. Sumi (Sumi).

Arm Wrestling: 1st Avilie Zuyie (Angami), 2nd Thejaketuo Talie (Angami) and 3rd Lunrito (Yimkhiung).

Tribal Bamboo Cutting: 1st Namyitiuleng (Zeliang), 2nd R. Tsanthungo Shitri (Lotha) and 3rd Zhüsutu (Pochury).

Banana Stem Cutting: 1st Limba (Chang), 2nd Joseph (Kuki) and Letuozo Kiewhuo (Angami).
