Kohima | April 21 : Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, Law & Justice, Yitachu today said Pochury tribe will be the major contributor for the Nagas economically as Pochuries are blessed with a land of rice, which is a natural resource and said truth, honesty and sincerity alone will take the Pochuries forward.
The parliamentary secretary was addressing the 21st celebration of Pochury Day, held today at Ura academy hall, as guest of honour.
He noted that it was only in 1954, that Pochuries decided that Pochury people residing in certain distinct jurisdiction shall be known as Pochury who has struggled for 36 years to get recognition.
He added Pochury community was listed out during the formation of Naga tribes, “We miss the train”, adding that Pochury tribe was taken for a ride as eastern Sangtams or Chakesang.
Also, lamented that the belated arrival of Christianity in Pochury areas has set back the Pochury people behind 60 years with the other Naga tribes in terms of knowledge, civilization and various purified religious activities, “This is how we are lacked behind,” recalled Yitachu.
However, he was positive that the completion of 21 years graduates them, ready to take any responsibilities with knowledge with all the basic information’s around the world.
“Less population is never a curse, disadvantage. Less population creates sufficient availability of land and we are blessed with that”, he said while maintaining that in terms of population, Pochury occupies one-fourth of the Phek.
Yitachu queried the gathering whether they are ready with human resource development, labour force, mentally equipped as there will be a complete transformation of socio economic life of ‘Our’ people, and urged to be prepared to develop the feeling of oneness, belongingness without any hesitation with a free mind and also maintained that time has come to think, plan and replace the future of ‘Our’ people with utmost prospect.
He also urged the gatherings to have confidence and faith in themselves and to get self-motivated.
Executive member Pochury Hoho Kohima, (PHK), Z. Katiry while highlighting the significant of the day said that the recognition of Pochury people reflects unity and oneness among their people.
He alleged that, till the recognition of Pochury tribe they were discriminated and humiliated, however, “We are second to none in regard to the contribution of Naga political movement”, he said.
Katiry recalled the moment of hardship where houses were gutted, people were left to starve, women were tortured and the rise from that shell “makes us feel we are second to none’.
He said Pochuries are competent to take the tribe forward educationally, politically depending on how the Pochury people work to build the tribe also the future depends on how the Pochury people work “from now on”.
S.Akho Leyri, DPO Kiphiri delivered speech on the topic “Socio-economic, impact on Pochuries by Urban settlers of Pochuries”.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Wachusie Katiry, President PHK, while Pastor PBCK Zhiwhuotho Katiry pronounced invocation prayer.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Sievitho Katiry, secretary information & publicity, PHK while Atatu Thurr Deacon Board Chairman PBCK proposed benediction.
