A five-day long Tsükhenyie cum 73rd youth day of Pfutseromi Youth Organization (PYO) got underway today at Pfutseromi village under Phek district.
Tsükhenyie is a festival at a time nature renewed - new leaves adorned the trees, plants and vegetables sprouts from the soil, and the sons and daughters of the soil get ready for a new season of plantation.
Gracing the festival as the guest speaker, Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister, Neiba Kronu challenged the youth to work hard and never stay idle. He asserted that the youth should have zeal to work and face the various challenges ahead.
Kronu urged upon the villagers to keep the village clean and beautify the surroundings since ‘this village is one of the important tourist destinations in the state.’ The Minister maintained that the hospitable attitude of the villagers has reflected a positive advantage for drawing tourist attention. He also encouraged the people to take up fruit trees plantation on commercial scale to boost the rural economy.
Delivering presidential address, PYO President, Kope Mero said that PYO is celebrating this 73rd youth day because of the farsighted vision of the past leaders and elders for the youth and the future generations which have been pass down to youth.
“Youth is the period we are not only physically and mentally at the fittest but also we are the strength and pride of the village,” he said. Mero added that PYO youth day coincides with Tsükhenyie, which is set aside for the youth to celebrate vibrant youth life, adorning oneself and celebrate with songs, dances and sports activities.
Greeting was shared by Pfutseromi Village Council chairman Lhiwepelo Ritse. Neiwou-ü Mero & Mhechie-ü Kapfo presented folk tune while Elika Mero presented a special number. The programme was chaired by PYO Advisor, Zekozo Mero while vote of thanks was proposed by PYO Vice President, Dietsho Ritse. Rev Neikko Mero, senior pastor, KCBCK and Rev Wepre Mero, pastor, CBCMK pronounced invocation and benediction respectively.
Meanwhile, the programme, to go on till April 27, will be marked by fishing day, Khel feast and wrestling day.
