Kohima | August 1 : Ongpangkong Students’ Union celebrated Tsüngrem Mong Sendong today here at State Academy Hall with Dr. Benjong Aier, Tir KAT and Alemjongshi, Jt. Secretary as the chief guest and theme speaker respectively. The celebration was held under the theme “How to grow academically and culturally as students”.
In his brief address, the chief guest said the celebration is a sign of unity that comes under one umbrella within the community at the same time builds relations with other tribes. Aier urged the students to grow strong academically and culturally as they pursue their education.
Also the theme speaker exhorted the students to be culturally redefined and not only academically but objectives of the festival should be well versed. Highlighting the significancebof the festival, Tonshinungba, Retd, Director P&S said the festival is observed during the first week of August (Pre-harvest) and a prayer for bountiful harvest. L. Chubalepzük Ao, Tir KOTT also spoke on the occasion. The celebration was marked by special songs by Toshinaro, Naga Idol. 03, Moa. L. Jamir, Mangmetong Students’ Union and Roko Naga Idol.02. Earlier, Rev. Bendangmeren Associate Pastor KABA pronounced invocation while Jongpong Mongro delivered welcome address. Imli Jamir delivered vote of thanks while Achila Tir, KOWT pronounced benediction.
