Poanglüm Mini Hornbill Festival underway

Tuensang, January 13 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Tuesday described Tuensang as a “mini Nagaland,” noting that several tribes of the State coexist in the district.

Addressing the inaugural programme of the Poanglüm Mini Hornbill Festival at the Parade Ground Tuensang as the special guest, he also extended the Poanglüm greetings and acknowledged the role of the Chang community in fostering peace and harmony.

The festival, organised by Chang Khulei Setshang, commenced on January 13 and will conclude on January 15, featuring traditional log pulling, cultural presentations and indigenous games such as tug of war and wrestling.

Emphasising Tuensang’s historical significance, Patton said such festivals were important for preserving and promoting the rich culture and traditions of the community.

He also stated that the demand raised by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has been forwarded to the Government of India, informed the State DIPR. 

The inaugural programme also featured a welcome address by Chief Host P Bashangmongba Chang, Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering; heralding of the festival by Yimkong Simba; theme exposition by W Chingmak; Poanglüm voice by Auching; and invocation by Rev Achu Chang.

Patton was accompanied by Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change and Village Guards C L John; Advisor for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Kazheto Kinimi; Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources A Pangjung Jamir; and MLAs Neiba Konyak, Lima Onen and Imtichuba Chang, among other dignitaries.
