Tuensang Kisan Mela receives good response

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): ATMA Tuensang conducted three days long programme in the district. On March 2 District Level Exhibition cum Competition and Block Level Kisan Mela cum Competition were held at Tuensang town public ground on where Y. L. Jami, IAS DC and Chairman GB ATMA was the chief guest.
DHO & PD ATMA Tuensang Dr. Moa Walling in press release said that the exhibition was organized for the general public under which competition was conducted for 21 items and 126 prizes were given to the winners by ATMA Management Committee (AMC) members who were judged by Tuensang KVK officials. In the programme the chief guest also released a video CD titled “Cultivation Practices of Mandarin Orange” narrated in Nagamese. This CD is produced and under Farm Information Dissemination activity for the year 2010.
There are 51 women SHGs registered under Tuensang ATMA from 8 blocks for which a “Block Level Kisan Mela cum Competition” was organized on the same day. A total of 25 SHGs took part in the mela and showcased their activities. Sales was also organized by the SHGs on this day and a total of rupees 1, 52, 815 was earned. The best ATMA registered SHG is Women Society Angangba of Longkhim Block, 2nd United SHG of Noklak Block, 3rd Vegetable Retailers SHG under Sangsangyu Block and the Best ATMA Block for the year 2010 was awarded to Shamator Block.
On 3rd March, one day District Level Farmers Training was organized at the town hall where Y. L. Jami, IAS DC was the chief guest. 98 farmers from all the 8 blocks and about 40 officials attended the training. The inaugural programme was chaired by Temjen, DAO & Dy, PD ATMA and Key note address delivered by Dr. Moa Walling, DHO & PD ATMA.  The chief guest released the Technical Folders translated in 4 major dialects and gave away the prizes for bests 3 SHGs and Best ATMA Block award and also encouraged and interacted with the farmers.
During the technical session Sentinungba, AHO of Horticulture Directorate, Kohima spoke on the “Cultivation Practices of Naga Mircha”, “Agri-Horti-Vety based farming system” was delivered by Achuchu, SMS Horti, KVK, Tsg., Tokeho Achumi SMS, Agronomy, KVK Tsg spoke on the “Agri-Fishery based farming system” and Puchong, Supervisor, Sericulture department deliberated on “Pre Cocoon Activities”. Besides this, there were video shows, Block Action preparation and allocation of Farm Schools to SHGs (PPP mode) for 8 blocks to be implemented this year.
On March 4, ATMA Tuensang organized Field visits and Demonstrations at different villages. Altogether 97 farmers from the 8 blocks, 14 demonstrators and 16 ATMA officials took part in the tour. The team first went to Hakchang village for exposure to Mandarin orange projects which are developed on technical guidance and have interaction with the Orange Farm School Farmer Teacher. Demonstrations were conducted Horticulture Department, Fishery Department, and Sericulture Department etc.
Later the team visited Piggery Farm School at Tuensang village where demonstration about setting up of piggery unit was explained. The farmers also had interaction with the Farmer Teacher. Cultivation of Large cardamom, bunding on steep slopes and Vermi compost method was demonstrated by officials of Soil & Water Conservation department. Bee keeping under large cardamom plantations was demonstrated by LRD officials in the Large Cardamom Farm School Lemsheruru at Kuthur village.
