Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched an oxygen generation plant at District Hospital Tuensang on June 22. The plant was inaugurated during the joint launch by the Government of Nagaland, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan.

Altogether eight oxygen generation plants were installed in the three northeast states - Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura - with the help of the Japanese government and UNDP on Tuesday.

The virtual launching programme was joined by Pangnyu Phom Minister for DoH&FW GON, H Chuba MLA, Toyang Changkhong MLA, Dr Manish Pant, Head Health and Governance UNDP, Nadia Rashid Deputy Resident Representative, Amardeep Bhatia Principal Secretary DoH&FW, Principal Director DoH&FW, DIG, SP, CMO and MS Tuensang while the programme was chaired by Kumar Ramnikant DC and Chairman DTF Tuensang.

In his inaugural speech, while thanking and acknowledging the facility support in form of the oxygen generator plant, the CM also extended the gratitude to the Government of Japan to India and UNDP. Nagaland is a small State with twelve districts out of which only Kohima, Dimapur, and Mokokchung are facilitated with such equipment. Now with the joint launching of OGP at Tuensang and next at Phek, it is a huge development in the health sectors of the districts, he added.

This plant is very important which will save many lives in the remote district not only during a pandemic but also in the long run, he said. With the absence of private hospitals in the district, district hospitals with smarter technical support and facilities can play a major role in the health services, the CM said.

Rio also advised the technicians to maintain the equipment with utmost care and sincerity so that the facility will provide the much-needed services not only to people of the district but neighboring districts as well.

State Health Minister Pangnyu Phom also appreciated the UNDP and Government of Japan for the huge support in this time of the pandemic. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Manish Pant, Head Health & Governance UNDP while Dr Lanu Chuba CMO Tuensang concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.
