Tuensang: Sangtam Baptist Church organizes sports event

In celebration of Mungmung festival of the Sangtams, the Youth Ministry of Sangtam Baptist Lithro, Tuensang organized a two-day sports event from September 5 to 6 at Parade Ground in Tuensang.

In the closing ceremony, Yangdipi Sangtam, Class-I Contractor graced the occasion as the match patron accompanied by Pongsu Chang, President, Chang Wedoshi Setshang.

In his speech, Yangdipi highlighting the importance of sports in today’s generation maintained that the spirit of sportsmanship among the athletes must be upheld in the highest order in any sports field.

Citing examples of the past glory of the forefathers who were warriors and took pride in headhunting as sign of achievements, he cautioned that the world has changed and has advanced in many ways and the warriors of today are those who excel in their academics and sports fields. He further encouraged the Sangtams of Tuensang town to be competent in sports as well as in their academics.

In the two-day sporting event, tug-of-war and volleyball were played. In the men’s final of tug-of-war Chungtor village defeated Angangba village while in the women’s category, Tsadang village defeated Kiphire Union Tuensang Town. In the volleyball final match Tsadang village defeated PHSNS range.

In the closing ceremony, the programme was chaired by Dekhingridi, Vice President, Sangtam Students’ Union Tuensang town while the invocation prayer was spoken by Lirila, Women Pastor, Sangtam Baptist Lithro.

Vote of thanks was delivered by T Bendang, Chairman, Organising Committee which was followed by mass benediction.
