Tuli wards borrow from locals to build govt. school

Dimapur, May 21 (MExN): Two wards under Tuli in Mokokchung aren’t having it easy after authorities released only a part of funds meant for building classrooms in their government primary schools – the education committees have actually borrowed money from the locals to complete construction works.

The district administration of Mokokchung is appealed to release the entire fund meant for construction of class rooms for government primary schools in Tuli ‘A’ and Tuli ‘C.’ The chairmen of ward education committees of the two wards in Tuli issued a copy of a letter today addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung. The committees are saying that 75% of the total funds have been “awarded” but the rest was met by local citizens who contributed to expenses to building the classrooms.

According to the letter, the work was construction of six rooms each for government primary schools of Tuli ‘A’ and Tuli ‘C.’ “We have completed the construction as per specification in all respects and the completion report accompanied by all required documents have already been submitted to the concerned authority and verified by the same,” the letter appended by chairmen of the two wards’ education committees stated.

“So far we have been awarded only 75% of the total amount payable to us. However, in order to complete the construction as specified the ward education committees have procured cash loan from the locals at the rate of prevailing local interest,” the committees stated.

The committees have appealed to the administration to release the remaining amount of funds at the earliest ‘so that the ever-increasing financial burden of our committee is solved.’ The letter requested that the payment be released within 30 days “failing which we have no other alternative but compel to seek justice from the appropriate authorities.”
