TUN condemns travel restriction on NPMHR General Secretary

Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): The Tenyemi Union Nagaland (TUN) has expressed deep concern and vehemently condemned the incident at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, where Neingulo Krome, Secretary General of the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), was unjustly barred from boarding his flight to Kathmandu, Nepal, on April 7.

Krome was scheduled to attend a regional conference organized by the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), where he was to participate in critical deliberations concerning the rights, dignity and survival of indigenous communities.

TUN President, Kekhwengulo Lea, condemning the travel restriction imposed on the NPMHR General Secretary, stated that such action taken without any lawful justification is not only a direct violation of Krome’s personal liberty and his right to peaceful human rights advocacy but also a blatant attempt to suppress the voice of the oppressed.

“As one of the foremost voices from the Naga homeland, Krome has consistently worked to highlight issues of justice, accountability, and human dignity. His commitment has earned him wide recognition across indigenous movements and civil society networks,” the TUN highlighted.

The union stated that this incident is not an isolated case but part of a disturbing pattern of intimidation and targeted harassment against those who speak truthfully about the historical and ongoing injustices faced by the Naga people. “It reflects a deliberate effort to criminalize peaceful dissent and to stifle the democratic space necessary for genuine dialogue and resolution.”

The TUN has urged the concerned authorities to immediately withdraw all forms of surveillance, travel restrictions, and harassment directed at Neingulo Krome. “A public and transparent explanation regarding the 7th April incident must also be provided without delay. Such actions if left unaddressed further delegitimize the institutions that claim to uphold justice, democracy, and the rule of law,” TUN also demanded.

“Silencing Krome will not weaken the voice of the Naga people. The spirit of resistance lives on in every Naga heart that longs for freedom, dignity, and justice. In Solidarity,” the union added.
