Two arrested for armed robbery in Chozuba

Two youths were arrested by the police in Chozuba, Phek, in connection to an alleged armed robbery which occurred on Christmas Day. According to the Phek police, the robbery occurred on the night of December 25 in Chozuba town, following which the two accused were arrested. 

The police declined to reveal details, while only stating that investigation was in process. “The process of law has been initiated and FIR has been registered at Chozuba Police Station,” said a Phek police official, while adding that the accused persons have been placed in judicial custody.

While stating that a clearer picture about the incident will surface as the investigation progresses, he said, “We cannot comment on the basis of hearsay. As of now, I can only say that the case is in the initial stage of investigation.”

Meanwhile, another source informed that the duo was apprehended on December 27 by the youths of Chozuba town to be subsequently handed over to the police. The source from Chozuba told The Morung Express that the duo forcefully entered the residence of a couple from whom they robbed Rs 35,000 at gunpoint. It happened around 11:30 pm. 

They reportedly had with them a .22 calibre country-made rifle. The motorcycle they used was identified eventually leading to their whereabouts in Chozuba two days later. 

One of the accused, said to be around 40 years of age, allegedly has a history of petty crime, while the other was said to be in his late 20s.
