In a tragic incident, two youths in their early twenties are feared drowned at Doyang Dam on Monday after the boat they were travelling in capsized, reportedly due to strong winds.

The incident occurred on May 27 between 12 noon and 1 PM, according to sources.

Despite efforts by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the bodies of the two youths were yet to be recovered at the time of this report. Search operation will resumes on Tuesday.

The duo was identified as Elanthung Ngullie (20) and Thungchio Patton (24), both residents of Old Riphyim Village. Echung Konyak, Company Commandant of Home Guards and Civil Defence, informed that the search operation has been called off for the day and will continue tomorrow with assistance from the NDRF team from Kohima.

Sources indicate that the incident occurred while the deceased and three companions were en route to work in a boat.
Strong winds caused the boat to overturn, throwing all five into the water. Three of them managed to swim to safety, but the other two, who could not swim, are feared drowned.
