TYO, NE Zeme Council flays Athaun killing

Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): The Tenyimi Peoples' Organisation (TPO) condemned the “brutal murder” of Athaun Abonmai,  the former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam Manipur and Nagaland) on September 22 at Pallong village under Tamenlong district of Manipur.

The TYO is “appalled at the inhumane manner he was killed without any compunction by the assassins,” stated TYO in a press release from its President Timikha Koza and General Secretary Vipopal Kintso.

Stating that such “heinous and diabolical actions should be condemned,  abhorred and done away with in our society,” the organisation urged upon the concern authorities and law enforcing agencies to “effectively identify the killers and penalise them as per the law of the land.”

“The TPO ardently hope and pray that Nagas relinquish ourselves of the perennial conflicts and head hunting days as things of the past and evolve to be a civilised christian society where differences and variation of human thoughts are resolved with rationale and logical dialogues,” it said, 

It further conveyed its condolences to the wife and children as well as the kith and kin of late Abonmai prayed that the God Almighty grant strength and solace to overcome this most difficult time.

Meanwhile, expressing utter shock and anguish, the Zeme Council North East India also condemned the “abduction and subsequent killing” of late Abonmai.

Stating that such “inhuman and gruesome act of murder” was unthinkable in a modern and civilized society and ought to be condemned by every right thinking citizen, the council also questioned the Government of Manipur (GoM) for security lapses.

In a press release from its President Raitu Elu and Vice President Rangom Hau, the council also appealed to "leave no stone unturned" and bring the perpetrators to booked and award befitting punishment and further extended its support to the demands of Joint Actions Committee (JAC) to deliver justice to the victim's family. 

The council conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and relatives and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
