UAVYO 8th annual sports meet commences

Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): The 8th Annual Sports Meet organized by Urra Area Villages Youth Organization (UAVYO) commenced today at Razhaphe Village in Dimapur on November 19.


UAVYO is a collection of five communities comprising of 12 villages – Sumi, Chakhesang, Angami, Sangtam and Nepali. 


The chairman of Razhaphe Village Council, Neiphilie Kense was the guest speaker at the inaugural programme of the sports meet. 


In his short speech, Kense lauded the UAVYO for “always being a light and a torch bearer for the welfare of the community.”


Emphasising more on the roles of youth in bringing peace, he explained that particularly in Razhaphe village, situated in the midst of all community, the setting up of the youth organization has not only shown but “performed greatly” in bringing peace and harmony in the locality. 


He further appealed to the youth to maintain the same brotherhood spirit and “aim more to achieve great many milestones as they go forward.”


In the first match of men's football game, Urra village overcame Bade village to seal the victory in a heart pounding tie breaker of 5 to 4 goals.


In the women's volleyball match, Diezephe village outplayed Razhaphe village to register the first win. 


Games in the sports meet include football (men) and volleyball (men & women). The sports meet is a three-day event which will culminate on November 21. Altogether, 10 villages are participating in the sports meet.
