Kohima, April 5 (MExN): Members of United Baptist Church Toulazouma (UBCT) marked Resurrection Sunday with a sunrise service and gospel walk, taking their observance beyond the church premises and into the streets.
According to a press release, the programme began at dawn, with members gathering for a sunrise service before proceeding through the locality with hymns, music and prayers. The congregation described the initiative as an effort to share the message of hope, victory over death and new life associated with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Speaking at the service, Pastor UBCT, Abeni Lotha said the significance of Resurrection Sunday lies in personal transformation rather than ritual observance. She urged believers to reflect on their lives in the context of the resurrection, stating, “The question we must ask ourselves is whether we are truly living a victorious life,” and cautioned against celebrating the day without understanding its meaning.
UBCT Youth Director, Obed Tep Rengma said the procession was intended as a public expression of faith. He referred to the sorrow experienced by the disciples after the crucifixion and said the resurrection brought renewed hope. Quoting Matthew 11:28, he stated, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” and encouraged believers to lay down their burdens and affirm their faith.
