ULB elections: Eight candidates issued Congress party tickets

Eight candidates were issued Congress tickets for the forthcoming urban local bodies (ULB) elections during the ticket handing-over programme which was held this evening, at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur.

During the NPCC’s first phase of ticket issuance, its former president, K Therie expressed elation on winning the recently declared results of the lone Lok Sabha seat, stating that it was a ‘victory of the people, of tribes and of faith.’

As proved in the Lok Sabha election, he asserted that the party must ‘uphold and confirm’ in the ULB elections that the party is against the ‘RSS and the BJP’s ideology in operating anti-Christian activities in the Northeast and in the nation.’

“The Nagaland Chief Minister might have 60 MLAs, but he has lost the respect of the people and the entire Northeast states,” he declared, while adding that Modi and Amit Shah’s ‘backbone has been broken.’

Claiming that the people of Nagaland are with the Congress, he urged the candidates to go to each and every house and show that ‘we cannot defect.’

He further urged the party to pick up the seat of women reservation in the seven wards.

Therie noted that a strong municipal committee was the need of the hour to fight for one’s fundamental rights in the wards,and that which can work towards ahealthy environment citing ‘clean air, water, road, drainage system and power supply.’

Theriesaid he was ready to campaign in any of the ward, provided that a quorum was maintained. He called upon the Naga public to be a shareholder in this municipal elections.

L Chuba, General Secretary NPCC, Dimapur incharge, said that the candidates have been selected after thorough deliberation and expressed hope that they will prove to be good agents to the Congress party.

Addressing the gathering, Kisheto Chishi, PCC, and member of State ULB Election Commission, said that while everybody was after the ruling government, without any leader in the state government, the party has succeeded thus far. He said that the Congress will continue to press on for the people and win this election as well. He further wished all the candidates the best.

The handing over of tickets was done by Kutoho Chishi, President DCC. The eight candidates are — Inoka T Wotsa- 9 Dimapur, Apale Thopi– 4 Dimapur, Kanili Kinilimi – 7 Dimapur, Hokheto Kiba – 2 Dimapur, Akhevi Yeptho – 23 Dimapur, Pretso Therie–Town Council -11 Chümoukedima, Imeangba Ao – Town Council - 9 East Dimapur, Khetoholi – Town Council - 7 East Dimapur.

The party officials informed that the second phase of ticket handing-over will be carried out in the next couple of days.
