Unauthorised roadside parking prohibited along key Kohima stretch

Kohima , April 21 (MExN): The Office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kohima, has prohibited unauthorised roadside parking along a key stretch of the town to ease traffic congestion and improve public safety.

In an order issued by DC B Henok Buchem, the administration noted that rampant roadside parking has been a major cause of traffic bottlenecks in the area.

According to the State DIPR, the decision follows a joint inspection conducted on December 4, 2025, by the Sector Magistrate and ward authorities, covering the stretch from Assamese Church Junction to National Highway-29 Junction under Ward-18.

Based on the findings, parking of vehicles within the Right of Way (RoW) along the identified stretch has been strictly prohibited with immediate effect, it said.

The order cautioned that vehicles found violating the directive will be towed at the owner’s expense and penalised under relevant legal provisions.

The Kohima Traffic Police have also been directed to install necessary signages and barricades to ensure effective enforcement of the restriction.
