Under Smart City Mission, Kohima gets new public facility

Nagaland Women Resource Development & Horticulture Minister, Salhoutuonuo Kruse inaugurated Midland community hall-cum-car parking facility at Midland, Kohima on November 13.

The project was executed by Kohima Smart City Development Ltd under the Smart City Mission of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

“The completion and inauguration of this community hall stands as a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in this locality,” Kruse said while addressing the gathering.

She stated that the project signifies the creation of a space dedicated to “progress, cooperation and community development.” The Minister hoped that the facility would bring people together, a place to celebrate, unite and foster the spirit of community.

Coupled with the new car parking area, this facility addresses both social and practical needs, alleviating parking challenges and providing a safe, convenient area for residents and visitors alike, Kruse said.

She said that the government has always believed that true development begins at the grassroot level and “projects like our council Hall is a reflection of that vision.”

Kruse assured that the government will continue to support every initiative that improves the lives of “our citizens.”

She extended special thanks to the land donors, KSDL, the contractor, local authorities, council members and everyone who have contributed to make this project possible.  “I am confident that this hall will become the heart of numerous events, educational programs and social gatherings that strengthen community bonds, she said.

Kruse encouraged everyone to utilize the provided facility with pride and responsibility. “May this hall and its amenities foster unity, promote cultural and social activities, and serve as a hub for growth and collaboration for many years to come,” Kruse said.

KSCDL CEO details Rs 2.91 crore project 
Er Kezha Theunuo, CEO, Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) said that the construction of Midland community building cum parking was sanctioned, tendered and issued work order on 31.03.22 in favour M/S Engg. Station with the amount Rs 2.91 crores which includes civil works, site development, electrification, water supply & sanitary fitting and rain water reservoir.

The total plinth area of this community building is 7800 sq.ft with ground floor at 1755 sq.ft, first floor-2925 sq.ft and second floor-3120 sq.ft.

Parking facility will facilitate 12 cars. The building will house one conference hall, two office rooms, kitchen and toilets for male & female in first and second floor.

He hoped that this building would serve public and private activities, conference, community meetings, birthday parties, social & family gatherings.

Er Theunuo said that KSC has also constructed similar type of community buildings in other six Municipal wards- New Market, Daklane, Nagabazar, Kitsubozou, North Block (Kezieke) and D’Block under Slum Area Re-Development

He said that an agreement will be signed between KSC and Midland Council for operational and management of the newly constructed building.

He informed that the management will charge certain amount of rent for using parking and conference hall, which will be utilized for maintenance and management and the net income will be shared between KSC and Midland Council like other community buildings.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Viphrezo Zao while Rev Medoneiu Usou, pastor MBCK invoked God’s blessing. Welcome address was delivered by Keduozolie Nihu, advisor Midland Council while special number was presented by BKK Midland Baptist Church Kohima. Vote of thanks was proposed by Tsao Paphino, vice chairman, Midland Council.
