Unions condemn alleged kidnapping, assassination of ZB former president

Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (N) has expressed shock over the alleged murder of Athuan Abonmai, former President of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) at Pallong village in Manipur by unscrupulous anti-social elements on September 22.

The union condemned the “notorious act meted out to one of our bravest leaders from our Zeliangrong community, who was kidnapped and heartlessly murdered. Such act of kidnapping and assassinating an innocent live must be publicly condemned by all the sensible citizens and should be labeled as a cowardice act.”

In this civilized world, the strong and brave people do not resort to violence means. In case of any issue and misunderstanding, it can be amicably settled through ‘peaceful settlement of dispute’ instead of resorting to violence means. The practice of ‘gun culture’ should be completely annihilated in the minds of the people in any given society. Snatching away an innocent live in the hands of cruelest gunmen is tantamount to awarding commensurate punishment, it stated.

Further, the union has appealed the law enforcing agencies to promptly investigate the case without further procrastination and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland through its Media Cell condemned the “gruesome and cold-blooded murder” and urged the Government of Manipur to speed up pace in nabbing the culprit(s) and give befitting punishment at the earliest. “Such barbaric act does not have a place in civilized societies. We call upon all right thinking citizens and organisations to come forward and condemn such barbarism." The union has also extended condolences to the bereaved family and prays for the soul to rest in peace. ‘Let justice prevail,’ it stated.

Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) stated that the ghastly and merciless murder of Athuan Abonmai, the former President of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) came as a shock.  NZPO, Secretary, Kingudi Joshep in a press release stated that Athuan Abonmai was a loving man and a dedicated leader who displayed his patriotic spirit by rendering his service for his people. NZPO expressed “regret of such an unfortunate incident that robbed us of the precious life of our dear leader. No one can fill the void his death has created in our lives.” The NZPO while condemning the gruesome killing has demanded justice at the earliest.
