The grand finale of the 19th Mongmong football tournament concluded here today at Kiphire with T Yangseo Sangtam Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly gracing the occasion as Chief Guest in the presence of Administration officials, HoDs and public leaders at public ground Kiphire.
In an exciting encounter between Abid FC and United Vikings FC in a grand finale, both teams remained tied at full time leading to penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout United Vikings FC defeated Abid FC by 5-4 goals.
Addressing the gathering Yangseo encouraged the players to maintain discipline, dedication and determination to be successful in any walk.
He expressed his gratitude to football team from Pungro and Meluri who took part in the tournament for displaying professionalism, discipline and keeping the spirit of brotherhood through their participation.
Stating that it is not possible for any government to provide white collar job to every individual he encouraged players to take it up as a career by taking the opportunity of various sports schemes launched by the government. He asked parents to support their children’s choice of sports as their career.
Highlighting the poor condition of facilities at public ground Kiphire he assured the gathering that he has already taken up the matter with the concerned authorities and will do everything possible in his position to improve and expedite whatever needs to be done to promote sports in Kiphire district.
