Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye today stressed on the need to strive to live in peace and unity.

Expressing deep concern over disunity and division in the present Naga society, he called upon the people to stop fighting and quarreling.

“It is a time we move ahead,” he said and asked the people to stay united and be forward looking to transform the society while addressing the day-two celebration of the Sükrünye Mini Hornbill Festival here.

Kenye also observed that culture is not only about festivity, but the habit, character and way of living symbolizes the true colour culture. Talking on the rich culture of the Nagas, Kenye said, "We are a world of our own. Nobody in the world will be as rich as us culturally.”

Stating that culture defines one’s identity, he called upon the people to preserve, promote and practice it.

Complimenting the state government for promoting the culture of the Nagas through the Mini Hornbill across the state, he hoped that the festival will not be just be an exhibition but is converted into revenue earning activities where people can be employed and at the same time keep alive Naga identity.

He was optimistic that the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas would contribute to growth of tourism industry in the state. Kenye also requested the promoters not to modify the shawls and other clothing but try to maintain its originality.

He also said that any handloom or handicraft product with its original version will fetch high market demand.

Lamenting that the present generation is the most unproductive generation, Kenye said, “We are only fighting among ourselves. We have contributed absolutely nothing. We are self-centered, selfish and we have to change.”

History cannot be altered or changed; he said and added that whatever we reap today is the effort of our forefathers. We have no right to break that hard work as we like, he said.

Sharing greetings, Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) newly inducted president, Mikha Kenye urged upon the people to maintain peace and unity.

Day two event was also marked by traditional games competition and Open Talent Nite.

Meanwhile, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu will grace day-three event on January 17.
