Dimapur | October 30
The Government of India, through the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative, is going to organise a ‘Unity Walk’ in collaboration with the Dimapur district administration and the Mera Yuva Kendra, Dimapur on October 31. The walk is being organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, regarded as the architect of the Union of India.
Making the announcement on October 30, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, said that the Mera Yuva Kendra, district administration, police, and other concerned “line departments” has come together to conduct the event.
Also known as the Padayatra, the walk will commence at 6:00 am from Clock Tower and conclude at the Dimapur Government College. It is envisioned as a collective journey to honor Sardar Patel’s principles and his role in unifying India.
“This Padayatra represents not merely a walk, but a collective journey honoring the principles and visions that Sardar Patel championed throughout his remarkable life,” said the DC.
As the first Home Minister and also the first Deputy Prime Minister of independent India, Sardar Patel assumed his crucial responsibilities in July 1947. He was entrusted with the monumental task of maintaining internal security, upholding law and order, and most notably orchestrating the integration of more than 560 Princely States into the Indian Union.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, is credited with integrating over 560 princely states into the Indian Union, laying the foundation for a united nation.
For his contribution during the freedom struggle and to national integration post-Independence, he was given the ‘Iron man of India’ title. “Beyond political unifications, Sardar Patel established the All India Service which he envisioned as a ‘steel frame’ for the newly independent nation,” the DC added.
He said that the statue of Unity, standing as the world's tallest statue, symbolises his unwavering dedication to national unity and administrative strength— a permanent reminder of his contribution to our nation.
The extended invitation to government officials, NCC cadets, NSS volunters, youth clubs and the general public to participate in the special event.
K Manikanta, District Youth Officer, MYBharat, added that the district-level event is part of a broader national campaign. He informed that from November 26 to December 5, a national event will be held in Ekta Nagar to mark the occasion. The campaign will culminate on December 5 with an address to the youth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. District level activities will be on from October 31 to November 25.
