Former Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr SC Jamir today said that root cause of the present malaise in Naga polity is the unsolved Naga political problem. Nagaland today is in a terrible mess, stated Dr. Jamir in his speech read out at the three day long Military-Civil Fusion Seminar 2025, organised by HQ IGAR (North) at Kohima Garrison under the aegis of HQ 3 Corps.

He stated that multiple authorities, both constitutional as well as extra-constitutional, are functioning according to their whims and fancies and undermining the rule of law. “Governance is in delirium. Free for all in the land but none is free under such an environment,” Dr Jamir said.

“When the entire systems are in disarray, what kind of a future can we fashion for the Nagas? Should we have to dream a bright future for the people of Nagaland, a total overhauling of the entire systems would be required where joint efforts of military and civil shall be required,” he said.

He further questioned the delay in implementation of the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position. In this scenario, he said there is need for the “united voice of the military and civil to impress upon the GOI to see the ground realities.” “Once the Naga political problem is finally resolved, the people of Nagaland shall rise up as a free citizens and start engaging themselves fully in their respective vocations without hindrance from any quarter,” he said.

After years of violence and bloodshed, he said that the Naga people want peace and development of their homeland. This provides the Government of India with a unique opportunity to find a lasting solution to the Naga problem, he added.

Dr Jamir further advised that the people of Nagaland should recognize that their future is tied with the future of the country. “For this to happen, Government of India should adopt an inclusive approach to development that guarantees equal opportunity for Nagaland to participate,” he said.

Dr Jamir said that the problem of regional imbalance should be addressed properly to add momentum to the growth engine that India has put on the move. “A small state like Nagaland has great potential which if optimally harnessed, can contribute significantly to the common growth of the country. There should enough space in the development pathways for the people of Nagaland to participate actively along with the pan Indian growth and to be ready to face the challenges ahead of them,” he added.
