Usha scouts for Naga talent

DIMAPUR, Dec 11 (MExN): Usha Uthup, a four time Channel [V] outstanding achievement awardee from ‘Kolkota, Kolkota…’ is here with her ‘five army band’ to sweep away the Dimapurians with her husky voice and pulsating performance. Speaking to media persons in Hotel Saramati, Usha assured in an impulsive move to promote a Signature Campaign for upcoming Naga youths in exposing their musical talents. “With the support of media here we can initiate a Signature Campaign for Naga youths which will serve as a movement to expose their talents. I promise to extend my support or help to initiate this project”, assured Usha during her third visit to Nagaland. 

Usha said she had been in constant touch with Dimapur and conveyed her happiness and found herself fortunate to come back again and perform for the people of Nagaland. The crooner also conveyed her love for the place and people. ‘Simplicity of the Nagas’ and ‘true land of music’ was what she had to express when asked about Nagaland and added that Naga people are full of warm, gentle, smile readily and void of any malaise. Usha has been in the music world for the past 35 years and has endless lists of hits and credits under her name. She has many popular songs to her credit and has acted for reel films like Bombay to Goa, Bombay talkies and other television serials. Usha’s known mark is her talent to sing in more than 20 languages which Dimapurians will experience tomorrow evening at the DDSC stadium. A Nagamese song is definitely on her agenda for tomorrow evening which has been penned by a Konyak.

“Music to me is a binding factor. I have never learnt any notes in music and I sing for the people”, commented Usha who initially started her career in music as a night club singer. “My biggest strength is that I know my weakest points and my limitations”, disclosed the singer who is also a wife, mother and a grandmother of two She agreed that today’s race in the music world is a race for glamour but she maintained that goodwill and quality result is what matters at the end. When asked on her latest venture, she disclosed that Tsunami project has been underway, a collective album of 76 artists in aid of the Tsunami disaster, which she disclosed was another reason for being off limelight for sometime.

‘Together lets us make moments of peace and harmony’ conveyed Usha for all the audience for tomorrow evening. Usha Uthup’s concert has been organized by Cimcos Dimapur, a five member club. Three local bands to share the stage are Native Rising, XTC and Squadron.
