USSC demands immediate posting of medical staff at Kiphire Dist Hospital

Kiphire, July 7 (MExN): The United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC) on Wednesday highlighted the shortage of medical staff in the Kiphire district hospital and demanded immediate posting of the staff.

In its letter addressed to the Principal Secretary of the State Health and Family Welfare department, the USSC expressed dismay to learn that the District Hospital in Kiphire is functioning without a gynecologist and also facing a shortage of specialist doctors.

The letter appended by USSC Executive Chairperson and Vice President stated that Kiphire being an Aspirational district, there is high expectation for attention in the health sector. However, “the prevailing condition of random transferring and shortage of Doctors and specialists at District Hospital Kiphire is quite disappointing and unwelcoming,” the Conference stated.

Terming the transferring and posting of government officers during the pandemic from the district without relievers as “an act of threat”, the USSC demanded to know on what ground the department transferred the officers without relievers.

It also highlighted that the Kiphire District Hospital, the lone hospital in the district is functioning without a gynecologist. The lone gynecologist who was serving at District Hospital Kiphire resigned in April 2021, the Conference informed, adding that despite repeated appeals, the department has remained ‘blind’ to the matter.

The USSC urged the competent authority to immediately post a regular gynecologist at the Kiphire District Hospital and other medical officers including the Deputy CMO who were reportedly transferred out without relievers within 7 days from the issue of its letter.

“Failing to fulfill the demands within the stipulated period of time, the Conference is compelled to impose democratic agitation and if any unfortunate incident arises towards the patient's lives, the concerned officer in charge of the department shall be solely held responsible,” it cautioned.

Meanwhile, the USSC expressed gratitude and acknowledged all the frontline workers for their round the clock service amidst the global pandemic.

The Conference also appealed to all the medical staff under Sangtam jurisdiction to be in their respective places of posting. It also urged the CMO and the MS to follow strict compliance and not to release any employee transferred without reliever, and also to ensure adequate supply of medicines and that facilities are functional.

The Conference conveyed its firm stand that any erring officer or employee taking the appeal for granted “shall be doing so at their own risk and the Conference will leave no stone unturned to reprimand those erring officers and employees.”
